The Pros and Cons of HPV vaccines

The main "pro" of HPV vaccines is that, if they are administered early enough, they can prevent many of the negative outcomes of HPV infection, including cancers that impact hundreds of thousands of people and kill well over four thousand people every year in the United States alone.

Like all vaccines, there are risks of side effects. These are very rare, but they do occur. The most common side effects are not too different from those which occur with other vaccines, including pain in the area where the shot was administered, fever, headache, nausea, and muscle and joint pain. Sometimes, individuals may faint.

One of the most severe side effects are related to allergic reactions to ingredients in vaccines. If you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to anything (particularly to things like eggs or gelatin), you should speak with your doctor about whether or not any vaccine is safe for you.

It is important to know that there has been quite a bit of research on HPV vaccines. The research has shown that HPV vaccines are considered very safe. None of the research shows that the HPV vaccine causes cervical cancer or fertility issues. One limited study demonstrated that there might be a .02% increase in the occurrences of auto-immune disorder responses, such as Guillain-Barre Syndrome, over that of the general population. However, large scale studies have not been able to repeat this finding.

However, if you have experienced any negative side effect whatsoever after the administration of any vaccine, you might be eligible for compensation from the VICP and you should contact an attorney with experience in vaccine injury claims.
