Vaccines have eliminated the disease smallpox from the planet completely. Vaccines have eliminated measles from most developed countries, except for intermittent outbreaks caused primarily by the avoidance of vaccination. The World Health Organization believes measles can be completely eliminated from the entire planet by 2020. Other diseases are also close to being eliminated by virtue of widespread vaccination.
Many of these vaccinations are administered when we are children. However, experts recommend that we receive some vaccinations as adults, too. Which vaccines are recommended for you may depend on your age, job, lifestyle, health conditions, travel destinations, and which vaccines you've had in the past. Some of the vaccines you received as a child wear off over time. Some you need every year. The CDC has some general recommendations for immunizations for adults. These can be found here: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/adult.html. However, it is important to talk to your doctor about your situation to determine which vaccines you may need.
The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) was created by the passage of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. However, the VICP is not limited to children, and if you have been injured by a vaccine covered by the program, you may be able to receive compensation for that injury. Covered vaccines which are also in the CDC's list of vaccines recommended for adults include seasonal influenza, Tdap, MMR, VAR, Hib, HAV, HBV, MenB, HPV, and PCV13.
If you have had one of the vaccines covered by the program administered and you experienced any injury you believe was caused by that vaccine, you should contact an attorney experienced with the vaccine injury compensation program.
