Vaccines and Transverse Myelitis

Writer: Rawls Law GroupRawls Law Group

In another blog post, linked here, I explained that vaccines can indeed cause transverse myelitis in rare cases. Medical literature supports this conclusion. A 2009 retrospective study in in the journal Lupus concluded that some vaccines are associated with the onset of transverse myelitis, usually from a few days to within 3 months of administration. The authors additionally speculated that auto-immune responses triggered by the vaccine itself or a vaccine adjuvant may be the culprit.

Although transverse myelitis is not a table injury, the National Vaccine Injury Program has nonetheless awarded millions of dollars to persons who claimed a vaccine caused the development of transverse myelitis.
